UV DTF Stickers and Transfers

UV DTF transfers are full color decals printed with UV cured ink and finished with a pressure sensitive adhesive. You peel the backing, press the design onto a hard surface, and pull the clear film off. No heat press, no cutting, no weeding.

The rule is simple: UV DTF for hard surfaces, DTF for fabric. These go on glass, ceramic, metal, hard plastic, acrylic and sealed wood. They do not go on shirts, bags, or anything that bends. If you are decorating fabric, you want our DTF transfers instead.

Surfaces

Where UV DTF Works, and Where It Does Not

Works on flat, hard surfaces:

  • Glass and ceramic: tumblers, cups, mugs, candle jars, vases, tile
  • Metal and stainless steel: bottles, tins, tools, signage
  • Hard plastic and acrylic: phone cases, laptop lids, luggage shells, containers, awards
  • Sealed wood and MDF: signs, boxes, coasters, plaques

Does not work on:

  • Cotton, polyester, or any fabric
  • Anything that bends or flexes, including silicone
  • Textured, ribbed, or raw unsealed surfaces, where the adhesive has nothing flat to grab
  • Cars. Not the body, not the glass

Four things we would rather tell you before you order:

  • It does not go on fabric or on anything that flexes.
  • On a textured surface it will not hold.
  • Once it touches the item it is down for good. You cannot lift it and reposition it.
  • No dishwasher, no microwave, no soaking.

Water and outdoor use. UV DTF is permanent, and it handles hand washing with mild soap without lifting. Keep decorated pieces out of the dishwasher and the microwave, and do not soak them. It can go outdoors in covered areas only, away from direct sun and rain, and outdoors the lifespan is shorter and depends on where the piece lives.

UV DTF or DTF

UV DTF or Regular DTF? A Quick Way to Decide

If you can fold the item, you need DTF. If you cannot fold it, you need UV DTF.

DTF transfers go on cotton, polyester and blends. They need a heat press at 300 to 310°F. Shirts, hoodies, tote bags, hats.

UV DTF transfers go on glass, ceramic, metal, acrylic, hard plastic and sealed wood. No heat at all, only pressure from your hand. Tumblers, mugs, phone cases, packaging, signage.

We print both in the same shop, so if you send artwork for a surface it will not hold on, we will tell you before we print it.

For colors outside the standard range, we also print nine color UV DTF, including a neon option that reacts under blacklight.

Application

How to Apply a UV DTF Transfer

STEP 1

Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. Dust or oil will show through.

STEP 2

Peel the white paper backing off the transfer. Do not touch the adhesive.

STEP 3

Line the design up before it makes contact. Once it touches, it is down for good and you cannot reposition it.

STEP 4

Rub the whole design firmly with your thumb or a squeegee, working from the center out.

STEP 5

Peel the clear top film off slowly, at a sharp angle. If any part of the design lifts, lay it back down, rub again, and keep going.

Aftercare: hand wash with mild soap only.

Common Questions

UV DTF Stickers FAQ

What can UV DTF stickers go on?
Flat, hard surfaces. Glass and ceramic, metal and stainless steel, hard plastic and acrylic, and sealed wood or MDF. They do not go on fabric, on silicone, on textured surfaces, or on cars.
Are UV DTF stickers permanent?
Yes. Once the design touches the surface it is down for good. There is no repositioning it, so line it up before it makes contact.
Can UV DTF stickers be removed?
They can, but not cleanly. The sticker breaks into pieces as it comes off, and it leaves adhesive behind that you have to clean off the surface. Treat the placement as permanent.
Can UV DTF stickers go on cars?
No. Not on the body and not on the glass. UV DTF is made for hard indoor surfaces and for covered outdoor areas, not for a vehicle.
Can you microwave UV DTF stickers?
No. Keep decorated pieces out of the microwave and out of the dishwasher, and do not soak them. Hand wash with mild soap and the design will not lift.
What are the downsides of UV DTF?
Four, and we would rather say them up front. It does not go on fabric or on anything that flexes. It will not hold on a textured surface. You cannot reposition it once it is down. And it is not dishwasher safe and cannot be soaked.
What is better, UV DTF or DTF?
Neither. They do different jobs. If you can fold the item, you need DTF. If you cannot fold it, you need UV DTF. We print both, so we will tell you which one your project needs.
Do I need a heat press for UV DTF?
No. UV DTF is applied at room temperature with pressure from your hand. A heat press is only needed for regular DTF transfers on fabric.
