Types of DTF Ink

There are several different types of DTF ink, which means it is essential to know what your options are. Some of the main options include the following:

Pigment Ink - Most types of DTF ink are simple, pigmented formulations. Though the formulations may differ, between brands, the basic concept behind the ink rarely varies.

UV Ink - UV ink is one of the unique ink types used in DTF printing. It contains both curing technology and ultraviolet to help the ink dry rapidly through the use of a chemical relation.

Water-Based Pigment Ink - The water-based DTF ink is a unique formulation that displays a high wash-resistance and also ensures that the prints remain soft.

DTF Ink Colors

DTF transfer ink comes in a variety of different colors, though there is a range of basic colors which you can reliably find in most brands. Generally, you can expect to encounter the following colors:

White - Since DTF transfer film is transparent, as are the backgrounds on the designs, white ink is a necessity to create complete designs.

Cyan/Blue - Blue is a strong base color, and also essential for the creation of colors like purple.

Red - Red is an essential color for the creation of colors like orange.

Black - Black is an essential DTF ink color used often for the printing of outlines and other parts of designs where black is essential.

Yellow - Yellow is a necessary color, not merely for use in yellow areas of the designs, but also for combination into colors like orange and green.

Are DTF Transfer Ink and Sublimation Ink the Same?

No, they are not. The ink for your DTF printer has been specially designed for printing directly on transfer film. Sublimation ink, on the other hand, is never a liquid. It goes straight from being a solid to a gaseous state.

DTF ink also results in a much higher quality image, mainly as a result of the ink being directly applied to the product. At the same time, DTF has a higher image resolution than when printing with sublimation. However, sublimation ink tends to last somewhat longer.
